Centering the histories of women, people with disabilities, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ peoples
Marginalia Rare Books is dedicated to locating, preserving, and placing rare books and manuscripts that document the lives and experiences of traditionally marginalized peoples. Specializing in antiquarian materials from the 17th through the 19th centuries, we collaborate with a largely institutional clientele to ensure their access to resources that support ongoing teaching and research. At Marginalia, it is our mission that scholars, students, and the public have increased opportunities to see these histories valued, taught, studied, and celebrated.
We invite curators and collectors with an interest in these fields to reach out with want lists or inquiries. We are thrilled to learn about grassroots organizations to whom we might contribute and collaborate. We’re excited to learn how we can assist in growing these areas of your library and supporting your work.
Bookselling as the preservation and platforming of traditionally marginalized voices
Founded by Miranda Garno Rossa and Kelsey Clarke Grode, we are committed to serving as a public resource. Alongside placing books in institutions that will ensure their survival, we also work to make these histories and their connections to today visible and accessible through educational events, print and digital content, and by investing in those current communities.
Community Alliance Project
As booksellers specializing in cultural heritage, we operate as collaborative partners with institutions and communities rather than simply as retail suppliers. Through our Community Alliance Project, we contribute to the present and future flourishing of traditionally marginalized peoples by donating to grassroots organizations run by, for, and within these groups.
